He was one of the
foremost person who spread yoga across the globe through his dynamic style of
yoga called as “Iyengar Yoga”. He was a prominent defender of the Patanjali

Shri Krishna Pattabhi
Jois was known worldwide for his “Ashtang Yoga”. He established the Ashtanga
Yoga Research Institute at Mysore with an aim to experiment on therapeutic
aspects of yoga. Later on, in 2006, he opened a school in Florida, United
States.

Swami Kuvalayananda is known for his research related to
scientific foundations of yoga. He founded the Kaivalyadhama Health and Yoga
Research Centre in the year 1924. Moreover, he published the first scientific
journal dedicated towards the study of yoga, known as “Yoga Mimamsa”.

Swami Satyananda
Saraswati was a yoga teacher popular in India as well as in the West. He
founded the Divine Life Society and the Bihar School of Yoga. The “Satyananda
Yoga” or “Bihar Yoga” has its core essence on Tantra.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is
the founder of ‘Transcedental Meditation Techniques” and taught this system of
yoga to more than 5 million people across the globe.

Paramahansa Yogananda is
known for introducing ‘Kriya Yoga’ and meditation to the western world. He
emphasized on the relation between yoga and spirituality. His book
‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ gained appreciation from the yoga practitioners.

I don’t think I
need much to say about Swami Ramdev. A multi faceted person known for his
contribution to yoga, Ayurveda, agriculture and now-a-days business and
politics too. He owes the credit to create awareness about yoga among the
common mass. He founded the Patanjali Yogpeeth which has its centres in and
outside the country.

Choudhury
Bikram Choudhury is known
for his “Bikram Yoga” which involves 26 yoga asanas sequence that is said to
have a healing effect on the body and the mind. He began yoga at the age of
four with Bishnu Ghosh, renowned physical culturist at that time and the
younger brother of Paramhansa Yogananda. Bikram Choudhury is the founder of
worldwide Yoga College of India.

Thakur
Bharat Thakur is the
founder of the “Artistic Yoga” and conducts corporate yoga workshops throughout
the world. He studied the different forms of yoga like Ashtanga Yoga, Hatha
Yoga, Karma Yoga and Kundalini Yoga under Guru Sukhdev.
Suneel
Singh
Suneel Singh is the new
age yoga guru who symbolizes modernity with tradition. His style of yoga
integrates the conventional form of yoga with other forms of exercises. He is
known for curing his patient using tools like ‘zodiac sign’, ‘Hasya Yoga’ and
‘Yoga Chi’.
